Nigerian President Goodluck Jonathan in Germany
Nigeria's President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan visited Germany from 18 to 20 April, 2012. During his stay in Berlin, he met Federal Chancellor Angela Merkel and Federal President Joachim Gauck for intensive talks.
Joachim Gauck was elected as the new head of state of the Federal Republic of Germany on March 18, 2012 in Berlin with one of the best results in the history of the country’s federal presidential elections. Gauck received 991 of the 1,228 valid votes. An overwhelming majority of the electors in the 15th Federal Assembly chose Joachim Gauck for the highest office in the land during the first round of voting.

Vivaldi and Beethoven in the Ambassador's Residence
On Thursday, 23 February 2012, a classical concert took place at the residence of the German Ambassador Dorothee Janetzke-Wenzel.
Classical music was played by the German cellist Thomas Kanitz and the Nigerian pianist Babatunde Sosan; the selection ranged from Vivaldi to Beethoven and Mendelssohn-Bartholdy.
The concert was followed by a reception in the residence garden hosted by the Ambassador.
German Ambassador Mrs Janetzke-Wenzel meets Governor of Delta State
On Sunday, February 19th, the German Ambassador Mrs. Janetzke-Wenzel and the Consul General, Mr von-den-Driesch, met the Governor of Delta State, Dr. Emmanuel Uduaghan. For the German Ambassador, it was the first visit to Delta State since she took up post in August last year.
International Coaching Course in Germany!
In spring 2012, the German Football Association will organise a three-week course for football coaches. This course, which will be conducted at the Sportschule Hennef near Bon on behalf of the Federal Foreign Office, includes 50% theory and is held in English language. It is therefore not necessary for the participants to speak English. Participants will receive financial assistance.

How to obtain a visa for Germany
Visa appointment procedure guidelinesIMPORTANT NOTICEnew Schengen regulations
All applicants may only apply for their visa appointment by sending a formal letter to the visa section of the German Consulate-General in LAGOS.
All applicants requesting an appointment for submitting their applications are obliged to send a formal letter according to the purpose of stay to the visa section of the German Consulate-General in LAGOS 6-8 weeks prior to the intended time of travel. The appointment will be given to the applicants by e-mail.
Airport transit visa are not affected by the new regulations.
Please note that with immediate effect only E-Passports (new Nigerian passports) will be accepted for visa applications!
The Nigerian Government announced that with effect of 01.01.2011 old Nigerian passports are no longer valid. As Schengen-Visas can only be issued into passports that are valid until three months after the expiry date of the visa, the Consulate-General will with immediate effect only issue visas into new passports.
