Nigeria: An important African partner

Moreover, the foreign ministers signed a joint declaration for further cooperation between Germany and Nigeria.

Westerwelle and Ashiru discussed how the strategic partnership - particularly in the energy sector - can be further elaborated.
Another issue discussed was necessary reforms at the United Nations. Like Germany, Nigeria is one of the 2012 non-permanent member of UN Security Council. Linked with the demands for a reform of the UN Security Council, Nigeria requests to aquire a permanent seat.
