AMBASSADOR DOROTHEE JANETZKE-WENZEL: A welcome message

Welcome to the webpage of the German Embassy Abuja and thank you for your interest in our activities concerning the German-Nigerian relations!

Together with our partners in the European Union, we cooperate with Nigeria being aware of our shared values of freedom amd democracy.

During her visit to Nigeria in July 2011, Federal Chancellor Merkel underlined the many opportunities for further strengthening our political, cultural and economic relations.

In the future, a newly established bi-national commission will coordinate and develope all aspects of our cooperation including those of our engery partnership, which has already been exisiting for some time.

In order to specify these plans, high-ranking Nigerian representatives will travel to Germany.

As Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany to Nigeria, I am looking forward to participating in the forging of this new dynamic in our relations. As early as 2004 to 2007 when I was German Africa Director, I had the opportunity to work closely with Nigeria in the context of the relations between the European Union and the African Union or ECOWAS as well as with the joint efforts to reform the United Nations and in the framework of cooperation between universities and on energy.

Whenever there was a need for participation in conflict prevention or conflict solution, Nigeria was in the forefront with her important contribution in Westafrica, in Darfur, Sudan, or in other international peacekeeping missions.

My hope is that Germans and Nigerians get to know each other even better and that they are able to learn together and from each other.

Dorothee Janetzke-Wenzel
