Germany strongly believes in multilateralism, with the UN at the core. This is why we play a pivotal role in the UN system.
The German government contributed over 800 million US dollars to the organisation’s work in 2008, making Germany the third-largest financial contributor. With 13.9 billion US dollars in 2008, we are also the second-largest donor of development aid worldwide.
We intend to remain a strong and reliable partner to all countries, working together to create a shared vision for the future of our world.
Germany's two year term as a member of the United Nations Security Council came to an end on 31 December 2012. The Council's work was dominated in particular by the radical changes in the Arab world. But the "traditional" focus, the continent of Africa, was also a prime concern.
