Information for Long-Term Visa Applicants

We suggest that you read carefully through the following information before applying for a long-term visa. Please note that extensive consultation (e.g. how visa forms are to be filled in, which documents were forgotten despite the detailed information leaflets listed on this page, etc.) is not possible at this time.

False information or any attempt to cheat will immediately lead to the end of the visa interview. Please also note that applicants making false statements or submitting fake or forged documents may have their visa application rejected. Fake or forged passports will be sent to the proper authorities at the German Embassy`s convenience.

Please note that visa applications for the purpose of family reunion can only be submitted on appointment. Please read through the following information carefully and include two copies of each original document plus duly filled-in visa application forms.

Important information for family-reunion:

With effect from August 28, 2007, the German Residence Law has been amended: Foreign Spouses wishing to reside permanently in the Federal Republic of Germany must be 18 years of age and must prove basic skills in the German language. Both requirements have to be met at the time of application for the visa.

The Language Department of the Goethe – Institute (German Cultural Institute) in Lagos will provide classes and will conduct the relevant examination (“Start Deutsch 1”) for those applicants who need to acquire or improve their skills in the German language. Applicants are advised to monitor the website of the institute: www.goethe.de/lagos .
