Economic and technical cooperation

Since Nigeria`s return to democracy, German-Nigerian economic and technial cooperation has resumed. German agencies and organisations such as GTZ or German politicial foundations are active in Nigeria. Substantial support is being given by Germany to Nigeria through multilateral channels like the EU. In fact, the EU is one of the biggest donor organisation in Nigeria, with Germany as the largest contributor to EU development funds. Current Projects of the German Embassy

Under the theme "Water is Life", the launch of a borehole, which was significantly co-financed by the German Embassy in Abuja, was held on September 7th in Ajido Community, a village in the Lagos Area. The project aims to especially improve the situation of girls and women, whose task it is to find and fetch clean drinking water for the community.

Current News : Small Scale Project successfully completed in Lagos

On July 29th 2010 a borehole in the Agbenaje Community in Alimosho Local Government Area of Lagos was officially handed over to the Community by Mrs Caroline Eick, representing the Embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany in Nigeria and the Executive Director of Develpment Support Institute Ltd. ( DSI ) Mrs Jacqueline Olayemi Odiadi. The borehole was donated by the German Government in Partnership with the DSI.

Small Projects Fund

The German Embassy provides assistance to projects benefitting groups and self-help organizations and/or institutions. The Small Project Fund aims at contributing to improve the economic and social situation of less privileged people in Nigeria. This fund is directly administered by the Geman Embassy in Abuja. 

Under the Small Project Fund, the Embassy can provide limited financial assistance to local non-governmental organizations, community groups and self-help groups for the implementation of community development projects.

Senior Expert Service

SES offers interested retirees the opportunity to pass on their skills and knowledge to others, both within Germany and abroad. They work in a voluntary capacity as Senior Experts, helping to train both specialist workers and management staff. They help others to help themselves – an important contribution towards safeguarding a small slice of the future. It is a system that benefits all parties.
