It is with great pleasure that the Delegation of the European Union to Nigeria, the Embassies of the European Union Member States and the Embassies of Switzerland, Serbia and Turkey present the 2013 edition of the European Film Festival in Abuja, Kaduna, Jos, Port Harcourt and Lagos. As in previous years, this festival is part of our activities to mark the Europe Day celebration.

Germany's international broadcaster Deutsche Welle (DW) has been in dialogue with the world for 60 years. Since its first day on air, it has transformed from a shortwave radio broadcaster to a multimedia organization. "With its journalistic content in 30 languages, DW ensures Germany's multimedia presence in the world," said Erik Bettermann, Deutsche Welle's Director General. He added that competition for global audiences is becoming increasingly fierce due to an ever-growing amount of media products, especially in the field television.

Athletics Coaching Course in Germany

The "Academy for Foreign Coaches" (DtV) in Mainz, Germany, offers a training course for coaches of athletics from ** 01st of June 2013 - 31st of July 2014**

One of the most important long term measures undertaken by the DLV for the promotion of athletics
in developing countries was to set up the Academy for Foreign Coaches in co-operation with the University of Mainz. Here students from developing countries study for a Track & Field Coaching Diploma.
The establishment of the Foreign Coaches Academy can now be regarded as an important milestone in the sporting world. The DLV strives to train and qualify motivated individuals in order to influence and promote athletic in their home countries. The coaches project based in Mainz is recognised by experts around the world.
All coaches are integrated in an Alumni network to guarantee a close monitoring of their career pathway. The final selection, restricted to prospective coaches from developing countries applyin through the German Foreign Office is processed by the DLV Academy for Foreign Coaches, Mainz.

Training objectives


The ability to teach and coach in the field of athletics is a central objective of the course.
The training programme is structured into the following courses:


· German language course (Intensive and extended)
· Theory and practice of athletics
· General kinematic and training theory
· Sports medicine (incl. basics of anatomy and physiology)
· Sports physiology
· Additional subjects/events (massage first aid for sports injuries, sports facility construction, sports organisation and competition organisation in Germany and in the participant’s home countries)
· Graduates who have passed the examination will receive an Athletics Coaching Diploma stating the grades for the individual subjects and the overall result

Afrika kommt! 2013-2015

The proramm is a joint initiative by leading German companies which aimes at capacity building among young and highly qualified professionals from Sub-Saharan Africa. The programme consists of a 12-month stay in Germany, comprising a 9-month internship in one of the participating companies and a 3-months German language course. Applications for the programme cycle from 2013 – 2015 can be submitted online until 15 December 2012.

PASCH - Schools: Partners for the Future

In February 2008 the Federal Foreign Office launched the “Schools: Partners for the Future” (PASCH) initiative. The aim of PASCH is to create and strengthen a global network of some 1500 partner schools with special links to Germany.

Language competition

Who will be the ‘world champion’ in German? Every two years school students from around the globe gather together for the International German Olympics to demonstrate their command of German. 100 young people from 50 countries and five continents are joining in the third International German Olympics which are taking place in Frankfurt am Main until 14 July 2012. They are all aged between 16 and 19

The Heinz- Kühn- Stiftung

Student from Africa studying in Germany

The Heinz-Kühn-Stiftung is a public foundation of the federal state of North Rhine-Westphalia which is exclusively and directly following non-profit purposes. With a view to promoting training and continuing training of junior journalists the Heinz-Kühn-Foundation awards scholarships to young journalists from North-Rhine-Westphalia for three-month or six-week stays abroad. Apart from developing countries scholarships are granted for stays in Eastern European Countries and in Israel. Furthermore, the foundation provides funds to allow candidates from these countries to stay in North-Rhine-Westphalia up to six month.
