Water for Hope Eden
It is a hot day and the sun is burning from a cloudless sky. The children of the Hope Eden Community School are just returning to their classrooms, after having welcomed their visitors with a song and a dance.
The Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany has come to the Hope Eden School to visit the children - and the new borehole with a solar pump that was funded by the German Embassy in Abuja.
Hope Eden started in 1998 as a farm - which it is also still today. Founded by Anngret and Shiekar Kumbur close to the Nigerian capital city Abuja, the school started as a play group for children, whose mothers worked on the farm, to help them learn English. In 2008, the Primary school officially took up work. It is the aim of the school to give the disadvantaged rural children and people to get connected to the growing city of Abuja and equip children and youth for a better future.

Until now, the farm and school did not have efficient and sufficient water supply. Therefore, a new borehole with a solar pump was installed. Pipes are connecting the borehole with the classrooms, kitchen and teacherquarters.

The borehole will provide clean and potable water and also a refreshment for school children, their teachers and farm workers on the hot Nigerian days.
